The Ballard Center offers something for everyone, and the Putnam family siblings put the versatility of the Ballard Center on full display.

Regardless of their differing majors, each of the three Putnam siblings took part in a Ballard Center Social Impact Project, connected to their areas of study and interest.

Social Impact Projects (SIP) are on-campus internships that combine real-world experience with a structured, supportive classroom environment. They play an important role in allowing students to act as social impact practitioners, navigating the realities and barriers surrounding social impact efforts in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations.

Rhett, Rae, and Shay each enrolled in SIP and utilized their individual talents to contribute to the work.

  • Rhett’s passion for the outdoors led him to a collaboration with Kodiak Cakes, conducting environmental research to inform the company's sustainability efforts.
  • Rae, worked with Intel, helping develop diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to support a more inclusive workplace culture.
  • Shay worked in a creative capacity with APOPO, designing an educational coloring book to teach the public about the organization’s mission and purpose.

Through their Social Impact Projects, the Putnams built relationships, developed professional skills, and learned how to interact with social impact work in a meaningful and intentional way.
