Brent Goddard spent much of his career managing products and brands, but his personal and professional fulfillment deepened when he shifted his focus from products to people. Though Goddard didn’t begin with plans to focus on social impact, he leaned into new opportunities that ended up re-shaping his career. Goddard’s experiences highlight how skills developed in the for-profit sector can be transferred and maximized to enhance social impact work.
Following his retirement from Nu Skin’s humanitarian initiative, Goddard joined the Ballard Center at BYU Marriott and began teaching a corporate social responsibility class. The course allows him to utilize his connections and experience to help students understand how for-profit companies can positively influence and drive social impact work.
The Ballard Center’s mission is to help individuals develop the faith and skills to solve social problems. This means encouraging students, practitioners, and changemakers to take advantage of experiences that will stretch their abilities and allow them to refine their skills and faith. By taking an unfamiliar career path, Goddard did just that. He discovered a love for social impact work, leveraged his skills to further social change, and increased his capacity to make a difference.
